Company history

The company, initially named Asian Eyes Pictures, placed an emphasis on Japanese hardcore content in its early years. As the company grew, it expanded its production to Southeast Asia and South America. In late 2006, Third World Media added Katana, a high-end Japanese lineup featuring popular Japanese AV stars and scripted, subtitled story lines.[1]

Scott, a fluent Japanese speaker, credits the growth of his company to his extensive travels in Asia. When Third World Media entered the adult market, the Japanese product entering the U.S. market was produced for the Japanese domestic market, where penetration is blurred, or "mosaiced" to conform with their laws. Third World Media produces movies for distribution outside Japan, and its hardcore products are shot without mosaics.[1]

Like the company's Asian titles, its Latin titles, which include transsexual titles, are also produced to be sold primarily in the American market. Third World Media's veteran in-house director Ed Hunter makes frequent travels to South America to find performers who've never been seen by American audiences.[1] The company also added John Florian as its sales manager in January 2008.[2]

The company is also the exclusive distributor of transsexual performer Gia Darling's production company, Gia Darling Entertainment.[3] Other adult film stars featured in Third World Media movies include: Mai Haruna, Rei Himekawa, Monica Mattos, Meguru Kosaka, Chocoball Mukai, Shorty Mac, Ed Powers, Allanah Starr, Gia Darling, among others. Japanese AV idols Junko, featured in The Kimono Kronicles, and Mirai Haneda, star of Hello Titty 3, signed at Third World Media's 2008 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo booth.[4]

Third World Media's movies are available for purchase online and through streaming video in a video on demand format from Internet pornography companies, AEBN and DVDEmpire.com. The company operates a branded VOD portal with AEBN at ThirdWorldDVD.com.[5]

Awards

The company won acclaim from consumer adult video review magazine Adam Film World in 2007 for "Best Asian Release Company"[6] and in 2008.[7] It was also nominated "Up & Coming Studio" by adult industry trade publication XBIZ for its 2007 awards.[8]

Its past AVN Award nominations are Shemale Samba Mania 16, 22 and 27 for "Best Transsexual Release"; Shemale Samba Mania for "Best Transsexual Series"; Pretty Little Latinas 23 for "Best Ethnic Themed Release, Latin"; Pretty Little Latinas for "Best Ethnic Themed Series, Latin"; Little Asian Cocksuckers for "Best Ethnic Themed Series, Asian"; Little Asian Asslickers 1 for "Best Ethnic Themed Release, Asian".[9]

The company has also been nominated for AEBN's 2009 VOD Award for Roppongi After Dark in Nov. 2008.[14] and again in 2010 for Spunk and Hidden Camera Massage Scam[15]
